Memory Loss

Memory LossMercy Gardens is the specialty care neighborhood at The Village at the Oaks for residents with memory loss and Alzheimer's disease. We understand the challenges you face in finding a caring environment for a loved one.

Your highest priorities are:

  • Quality care and peace of mind
  • Dignity and integrity
  • Freedom, privacy and safety
  • Comfort and individuality

These are the underlying principles that Mercy Gardens was founded upon.

Our small, intimate neighborhood emphasizes nurturing surroundings where residents experience a very high quality of life for as long as possible. We partner with families to help them remain active in their loved ones' lives and to adjust to changes.

Mercy Gardens care givers are selected for their commitment to working with this special population and undergo specialized training. Customized programming addresses each individual's needs and capabilities. We emphasize one-on-one interaction.

Programming and Activities

Activities that accommodate specific cognitive aptitudes include classes, discussion groups, music therapy, recreational pursuits, and pet therapy.

As residents' cognitive abilities change, we adapt their program participation accordingly. But whatever the activity, Mercy Gardens staff take the extra time to encourage residents to reach their full potential.

Mercy Gardens is designed in accordance with current research on memory loss. Located within the neighborhood are an activities area and dining room, lounge and access to a secure courtyard. To protect the safety of each resident, all Mercy Gardens entryways are equipped with high-tech monitoring devices to guard against elopement.

Family Participation

Our activity director organizes family picnics, parties and holiday gatherings. We also plan support programs for family members dealing with the difficult changes associated with Alzheimer's disease and memory loss.

Families are encouraged to participate in individualized care planning sessions and are welcomed to visit any time. Family members often stop by for meals, take residents home for a visit, or go on outings. Our professionals focus on health care, so family members can devote more time to emotional support and the loving attention that only they can give.
